Confident Children In 2026: How The Right Childcare Will Help

At Gingerbread Kindergarten, we are always working hard to make every moment count. We are especially focused on helping children develop skills that can help them along on their future journeys. Confidence is one of these skills we like to prioritise because it is an asset that sets the foundation for happiness and success.

So how can a childcare centre support your child to feel confident in themselves and their abilities? Let’s take a look.

Teachers Who Model the Right Behaviour

Children are true copycats and will start to mimic any behaviour they observe. It is natural for a group of children to be more self-assured when their teacher is a leader at heart. Through the positive and polite, yet firm, behaviour of our teachers, children learn to become confident without even realising it.

We Make Room for Failure

Everyone fails; everyone falls. In our competitive world, people tend to be obsessed with success. We often forget that it is the constant failures and mistakes that teach the lessons we need in order to succeed. We accept failure as part of growth and handle mistakes as learning opportunities instead of viewing them as shameful occurrences.

We Encourage Children to Try New Things

There are few things as scary as something new and unknown. An unfamiliar situation or an unknown topic can make anyone feel a little bit nervous, but change shouldn’t be terrifying. Students are constantly motivated to try new things. The habit of trying new experiences unlocks more knowledge. With every new lesson learned or skill developed, children become more informed, which can make them feel more positive and assured.

We Celebrate Effort Even More Than Success

Don’t get us wrong, success and achievement are still great and should be celebrated. Yet, our educators understand that the ‘winners’ are only able to achieve because they have competitors who also work hard. We celebrate effort so that our students will know that their hard work is appreciated and valued. By celebrating effort, we encourage all of our students.

We Embrace Diversity

It is perfectly fine for children to feel like they are “different” from others. What isn’t fine is when children start to feel like they are not valued as much because they are a little bit different. Educators work hard to help students understand that we are all different and that these unique traits should be celebrated and appreciated. Being different is, by no means, shameful and can also be a useful tool to unlock a little bit more confidence if it is viewed correctly.

We Treat Children With Respect and Kindness

Their opinions and feelings matter. By treating young learners respectfully, they learn that they are valued and important. And because children tend to mimic the behaviours of educators, they naturally start to treat others with the same respect and kindness.  This ability to treat others well generates positive reactions from others, which, in return, also boosts confidence.
